Commonly called as K-Wires, it is a rigid stainless steel wire with one sharp pointed end which can be easily driven into the bone. It is used for internal fixation of fractures of phalanges, metacarpal, metatarsal holding small bone fragments to their present bone.
[(e.g.) in fracture of patella medial malleolus]. It is also commonly used in skeletal traction.
